Famous Egyptian Reflection

During today’s class I found out that Ra had many children and that Mut acutally formed into more goddesses than I thought.  I leanred when some of the great pharoahs lived and died, how some gods or goddesses were like each other, what some of the gods and goddesses did, and who wanted and built the pyrimids.

If I could do this presentaion again then I wouldn’t have waited as long as I did and mabey have been one of the first few people because I kept getting even more nervous every time someone went.  I also would change my cotume so I could look more like my goddess, Mut by adding the royal crown of Upper and Lower Egypt or a vulture head-dress.  i would have changed how I said my soeech and gave it more enthusiasm and maybe have practiced a little bit more so I wouldn’t stumble with any of the sentences.

Famous Egyptian Speech

My speech:

Famous Egyptian Speech for Mut

I am the great mother goddess, protector of mothers and the sky.  I am the Theban mother goddess.  I am Mut and my name means mother.  I am the queen of the gods at Thebes.  You will usually see me as a woman wearing a vulture head dress or the United Crowns of Upper and Lower Egypt.  I am the most important goddess because I am the goddess who created all life and replaced many of the other Egyptian goddesses.

I became an important goddess during the New Kingdom.  I came from the Nile Delta or Middle Egypt.  I am married to the creation god, Amen and we have an adopted son Khons, the moon god.  At first I was only a local goddess, but then I became a national goddess.  When Amen fused with the sun god, Ra, I became the “Eye of Ra.”  Many know me by my other names such as Isis.  I am such a powerful goddess, that my people erected great temples in my honor and I am still well known in the new millennium.

I am the creator of everything in the heavens and on the earth.  I am so mighty that I even created myself.  Because I created everything, people call me the great mother goddess and I am the Queen of the Gods at Thebes.  As my popularity spread, my people made a new festival called, “The Festival of Mut.”  My worshippers put a statue of me in a boat and sailed it around the lake at my temple, Karnak.  During wedding festivals people worship me so that I can bring fertility because I am the creation goddess.  My followers believe that I created and gave birth to everything.

As my popularity increased, my name started to become one with many of the other goddesses.  I began to replace other goddesses such as Bastet, Nut, Sekhmet, Wadjet, Isis, and Nekhbet.  People merged me with some of the other great goddesses.  I became the new wife of the god Amen, the mother of the Pharaoh and I wear the royal crown of Upper and Lower Egypt.  I was worshipped from the time of the New Kingdom and into the Roman times.  My worshippers see me as the great all-in-one goddess.

Although I started out as a local goddess, I became the most worshipped and important goddess in all of Egypt.  As the creator of everything, I was able to replace many other goddesses.  My followers worshipped me for a long time because I am so great. I am the great mother goddess.

Powerful Storm Sweeps U.S. East Coast

Title:  3 Deaths Blamed On East Coast Storm

 Link to website: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070416/ap_on_re_us/spring_storm_65

The nor’easter hitting the coast.  link to picture

People evacuating the low lying islands.  link to picture

What is the issue?

The issue is that a nor’easter storm hit the East coast of the United States.  There were lots of floods because up to 5.5 inches of rain fell and the seas were up to 20 feet high.  Many homes, cars, businesses, boats and properties were destroyed by flooding, high winds and at least three tornadoes.  Areas from upstate New York to Maine are being threatened be heavy snow.  Some islands were evacuated because of coastal floods.  About 500 flights in and out of the North East were canceled or delayed for hours.  Three deaths are blamed on the storm on the East Coast and five more in the mid-West.

Who is involved?

  • The citizens of the East coast
  • the people who had to leave thier property and belongings
  • the people who were on the canceled or delayed flights
  • the airlines, car rental companies, hotels, etc.
  • the relatives of the people who died
  • the people who are trapped in their houses

Who is affected and how?

The citizens of the East coast are affected because the nor’easter might have hit their part of the state.  The people who had to leave are affected because now they might not have a place to stay, their house or apartment might have been destroyed, or they might not have any relatives outside of the state.  The people who were on supposed to be on the canceled or delayed flights because the place that they were supposed to stay might not be there because it got destroyed.  The airlines are affected because they are losing money since nobody is on the canceled flights and the airlines won’t get money for the customers.  The car rental companies will lose money as well from the canceled flights because not as many people will rent cars.  Hotels will lose money also because some people who booked rooms won’t be there because of the canceled flights.  The people who are trapped in there houses are affected because they don’t know how long they have to be there and when it will be safe to come out again.  The people who had relatives die will be affected because they lost a family member and will miss them.

What would you do if you were directly involved?

If I were directly involved then I would try to send boats into towns once it is safe then rescue anyone who was stuck in their house or anywhere else and make sure that they got to a safer place.  I would also help to clean the town up after the flooding went down or the snow melted.

How does this affect the world?

This affects the world because a storm like this costs a lot of money in damage.  Many fishing boats were affected and the fishermen couldn’t go fishing which would affect the fish market.  Flights were delayed to and from New York City and other airports up and down the coast.  Due to connecting flights this affects air travel through out the world.  This makes the airlines, car rental companies, and hotels lose a lot of money.  Insurance companies will have to pay a lot of money for damages from the storm.  Fire fighting departments, police departments, emergency management and aid agencies will spend a lot of money and supplies for the storm.

Ancient Africa wiki Reflection number two

1.  What would you change about the final product (the wiki you created) if you were to do the assignment again?

If I were to do this project again, I would change the amount of time that I worked on this wiki at home because I had to do most of the work at school and I didn’t finish my wiki page on time.

2.  Look at some of the other wiki from any class and find a few that you think are done exceptionally well. Tell me the name of the empire and the block, and then explain what you like about their wiki.

The Ancient Songhai Empire-Block H

I like the way that they made it clear when they went to a different subtopic.

Ancient Zimbabwe - Block H

I like the way that this group used different font types and many pictures to show what they meant in the text.

The Ancient Kongo Kingdom - Block H

I like the way that this group explained everything in details and made everything clear.

Ancient African Relflection

  1.     What did you learn from this task?I learned from this task that you have to make sure that when you are looking at a website that the information is constant and what the website address is.   If the website address has a squiggly line in it that means the information most likely is someone’s thoughts.

    2.    Did you find this difficult or easy?  Why?

I found this a little bit difficult because it was very hard to find information about Ancient Ghana.  I t was hard because there wasn’t that much information on the internet to use because most of the information was all the same.

3.    What would you change about the process you went through to complete the wiki if you were to do the assignment again?

If I were to do this assignment again I would change the process that I went through by doing more research at home, doing one page at a time instead of flipping back and forth, and researching more in general.

Iran Deffends Holocaust Conference

Iran Deffends Holocaust Conference

What is the issue?

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran held a conference in Iran to discuss the extent of the holocaust and whether 6 million jews actually died.  Iran’s foriegn Minister, Manouchehr Mottaki defended the conference saying that it was held to for people who wanted to express their feelings about the holocaust freely.  It is illegal in many European countries to deny the holocaust.

Who is involved?

Manouchehr Mottaki, the Iranian Foreign Minister,

The Iranian President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad

Australian Fredrick Toeben, jailed in Germany for incitement and insulting the memory of the dead.

Robert Faurisson, convicted in France for denying the Holocaust

Georges Thiel, convicted in France for denying the Holocaust

American David Duke, former Klu Klux Klan leader

Jewish Rabbis

Who is affected and how?

Jewish people are affected because it disgraces them by denying their history and the horrible genocide that occured.  It will affect the deniers because it could make them think that their thoughts are the same as others.  This will affirm their thinking that the holocuast was a myth.

What would you do if you were directly involved?

If I was directly involved I would allow the conference to be held because it is people’s thoughts and not a denial or acceptance if the Holocaust really happened.  I would attend the conference and give my opinions about the Holocaust and to say never let it happen again!

How does this affect the world?

Everyone in the world will be affected by this conference because people will have different thoughts about wether it is a good idea to hold the conference.  Some people think the conference is wrong and others say it is okay.  The conference will show how people really think about the freedom of speech.
